Himroo is an age old weaving art of Aurangabad, when Muhammad Bin Tughlaq shifted his capital from Delhi to Aurangabad in 14th century A.D. The hand woven Himroo fabrics were used to serve the Royal family. Since then this art has been preserved by the Qureishi family for generations. The Qureishi family is the only descendent left who have preserved this precious art of Himroo establishing the Aurangabad Himroo Industries and skilfully developed products such as Kham Khab, which is marvellously woven with Golden and silver threads.
All the Himroo shawls we sell have been hand loomed in exquisite patterns by weavers living near Aurangabad in Maharashtra, India. It takes about three days to hand-weave a Himroo. They are reversible and very soft to the touch and hand-woven with 50% cotton and 50% silk thread (gold and silver) which give them a luxurious and exquisite look. This is the best quality of Himroos you can find. It has a thiner and softer weaving than the normal Himroo, it is also a bit lighter as it weighs 390 grammes or 14 oz instead of 420 like the normal Himroo range.
The colour range available is navy blue, garnet, maroon or black and all the thin Himroo shawls have hand-woven with an exquisite paisley design.
